Stopping the juggling!

You're probably thinking this sounds like a funny title! Well juggling is what I often feel I am doing much of the time! It applies to both of us - for Mum (or Shirley to you guys!) also runs another business - Empower You Energy Therapies. And me? I have 2 young children and am a stay-at-home-Mum. My days are mostly filled with preschool runs, making food, changing nappies, milk feeds & playing! It can be a real challenge to make any time for the things I want to do - like running a business. And for that I am thankful that Mum and I are able to do this together and therefore share the load.

I got to a point not long ago where I was struggling a bit trying to fit everything in and I realised I needed to keep things simple for the benefit of all our sanities! I am the sort of person where I'd I'm going to do something I'm going to put my all in and do it properly. Whether that's my crafts or being a parent. I wasn't able to do this living as I was and being so busy all the time. I took a step back and evaluated what was really important; the kids. So now we spend more time at home - so I can keep on top of things like making dinner on time & doing the washing - and less time rushing around. I also spend less time worrying about tidying/cleaning because I realised that the tidying, in particular, is a battle I am never going to win with children around.

Don't get me wrong, we don't live in Squalor ;-) I still do what I can but I no longer let it take over my life. I realised that when I make the effort to play and be present for my children in that moment, we all have fun. And I feel less guilty too! So keeping life simple has helped me massively and I feel calmer and happier for it. And creating the pieces we are at the moment for The Seashack is very therapeutic for me...and a good reminder of how I want to live :-)

Inspirations close to home

We've been a bit quiet while we busily prepare orders for our signs and jars. We've had a great response to our designs on Facebook and Ebay and we're working on setting up an Etsy shop when we get a moment spare!

One of the unique things about our designs is the wording we use. The Seashack is all about positivity; seeing the best in everything, always looking at the glass half full. Many of our words are inspired from our everyday life experiences whether it be being a parent or exploring nature. The words represent feelings; tackling everyday emotions and overcoming them with positivity and gratitude. We express ourselves through our designs and this in itself helps us to remain positive and keep focus.

I produced this sign this morning. It's not quite finished yet but it's inspiration came from my Daughter.  She is 11 months old and spends much of her time in the sling, watching me intently. I caught her gazing at me a few days ago and felt a burning sense of joy mixed with responsibility for this little person! We truly are the best role models for our children & I for one want mine to live a conscious, positive life. G x

A creative Sunday

Gemma has been working on our upcycled signs with lovely positive messages, which are taking shape and looking good. This is the sort of thing we like to surround ourselves as it reminds us of what is important and stops us getting bogged down in the day to day irritations – that none of us are immune from.

As well as the signs I was sorting through my fabric box and came across some old denim I’d cut up from an old pair of jeans.  I’d been laying the fabric out on the table to see what interesting shapes and colour combinations would inspire me to create another picture.  My eye suddenly caught sight of one of the jean pockets I’d cut out which I realised would make a lovely beach hut – you can see what happened next in the photo!  Now to find some words to fit the picture……..!

The Seashack Philosophy

Our designs are more than just lovely things for the home. Their aim is to uplift and inspire your day and make you feel good. We don't often appreciate how amazing life is and we think it's important to surround ourselves with positive messages.

We love feeling positive and happy and that's what The Seashack's about.
